EMMA “NANNIE” DERRICKSON, 92, OF CHINCOTEAGUE, VA, DIED PEACEFULLY IN HER HOME ON MONDAY, APRIL 30, 2018, SURROUNDED BY HER LOVING FAMILY.  SHE WAS BORN AND RAISED IN THE TEMPERANCEVILLE, VA AREA.  EMMA WAS A MEMBER OF HORNTOWN BAPTIST CHURCH IN HORNTOWN, VA.

SHE WAS PRE-DECEASED BY HER FATHER, THOMAS ALFRED HILL, AND MOTHER, MINNIE SATCHELL.  ALSO, HER LOVING AND DEVOTED HUSBAND, HAROLD GANNON DERRICKSON, SR., SON, HAROLD GANNON DERRICKSON, JR., GRANDDAUGHTER, EBBY LYNN BARBOUR, AS WELL AS SEVERAL SIBLINGS.

SHE IS SURVIVED BY FOUR DEVOTED AND LOVING GRANDCHILDREN, GANNON DERRICKSON AND WIFE TANYA, ARLA JO RUSH AND HUSBAND BRYAN, ELISABETH WOMACK AND HUSBAND DAVID FROM RICHMOND, VA, AND BEVIN JONES AND HUSBAND COREY.  NINE ADORING GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN JAMES BARBOUR AND WIFE CHERI FROM CUMBERLAND, ME, TERRA BARBOUR FROM TOPSHAM, ME, MONICA BARBOUR FROM RICHMOND, VA, MELISSA PERRY-PRUITT AND HUSBAND AUSTIN FROM HAVELOCK, NC, LINDA SUE RUSH, NATHAN AND ELAINA JONES AND DAVID AND JACKSON WOMACK FROM RICHMOND, VA., AS WELL AS, ONE GREAT-GREAT-GRANDSON, MASON BARBOUR, FROM CUMBERLAND, ME.  IN ADDITION, DAUGHTER-IN-LAW, LOIS ANN DERRICKSON, TWO NEPHEWS ROLAND SATCHELL AND WIFE OLIVIA, AND GARY HILL AND WIFE PEGGY FROM SALISBURY MD.  TWO GREAT NEPHEWS HARRY FISHER AND TOMMY FISHER, AS WELL AS MANY BELOVED RELATIVES AND FRIENDS.

NANNIE HAS TOUCHED SO MANY LIVES OVER HER BLESSED 92 YEARS.  SHE WITNESSED TO COUNTLESS PEOPLE AND HELPED TO BRING SO MANY TO JESUS.  SHE TRIED TO ALWAYS FIND THE GOOD IN A PERSON AND TAUGHT HER GRAND CHILDREN TO DO THE SAME.  SHE WOULD SAY, “YOU CAN ALWAYS FIND SOMETHING GOOD IN A PERSON, SOMETIMES YOU JUST HAVE TO DIG DEEP ENOUGH.”  SHE WAS CONSIDERED TO BE LOVING, DEVOTED, CARING, GODLY, AND WISE TO ALL HER FAMILY AND FRIENDS.  WE KNEW SHE WAS ALWAYS THERE WITH THE ANSWERS, NOT HERS, BUT USING THE BIBLE AS HER GUIDE.  SHE TAUGHT MANY OF US LITTLE LESSONS ALONG THE WAY, SOME WERE EASY, BUT SOME WERE HARD.  NANNIE LOVED AS JESUS LOVED, UNCONDITIONALLY, WHAT BETTER TEACHER COULD WE HAVE HAD.  SHE WILL BE MISSED BUT ALWAYS REMEMBERED.  NOW, WE CAN SAY AS SHE OFTEN DID, NANNIE WE ALL HAVE OUR MEMORIES OF YOU AND ARE WAITING FOR THE DAY WE SEE YOU AGAIN!

SERVICES WILL BE HELD AT THE FOX & HOLSTON FUNERAL HOME ON CHINCOTEAGUE SATURDAY MAY 5, 2018 AT 2 P.M.; VIEWING TO BE HELD 1 HR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE.  GRAVESIDE SERVICE TO FOLLOW AT MECHANICS CEMETERY.  A RECEPTION WILL BE HELD AT MARIA’S FAMILY RESTAURANT ON CHINCOTEAGUE FOLLOWING THE GRAVESIDE SERVICE.

I am so sorry to learn of Mrs. Emma passing. I wouldn't have know if I hadn't been looking at the post. I am pretty sure Mrs. Emma mentioned me to some of you who are my family that we have not had the pleasure of meeting. I and Mrs. Emma are related through my Grandmother. My Grandmother was Ruth SATCHELL before she married and became Ruth Wood.... My Grandmother's father was some how related to Mrs. Minnie. I am so broken hearted that I haven't gotten to see her or talk with her for awhile. I used to enjoy it when the nursing services would tell me to go to her.... She was truly a Godly woman.... loved talking about family and church and God with her.... she is always going to be missed....

Mrs. Emma was a wonderful Christian lady who lived her life for the Lord. She was a wonderful Sunday School teacher who laid a Christian foundation for many young lives. My sincere sympathy and prayers go out to her family and many friends.
