Harold H. Lott of Chincoteague Island, formerly of Baltimore County, Md. passed away on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at his home. He was born in 1919 just the other side of some sand dunes off the Atlantic Ocean near the seaport of Swansea, Wales, and Great Britain. He came to the USA at the age of 7 with his parents and 4 sisters. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II in London and Paris.

Hal graduated with honors from the Maryland Institute of Art in Baltimore and later earned his Doctorate of Education from Columbia University in New York.  He taught art for 18 years at Milford Mill High School in Baltimore County followed by 15 years as the Consultant in Arts for the Maryland State Department of Education.  Each year since 1982, Hal has designed and printed an original collectors edition silk-screen poster for the annual Chincoteague Easter Decoy Festival and the Chincoteague Pony Swim.

He is survived by his wife of 68 years Claire Lott, his daughter Megan Lott of Melfa, VA and his two sons, Jonathan of Oahu, HI, and Matthew of New York.

My thoughts are with Claire Lott and the Lott family at this time of loss. Harold and Claire remain in my memory as passionate residents of the island where I grew up. I'm saddened at Mr. Lott's passing. ~Steve Beebe

We are saddened to learn of the passing of Mr. Lott. Harold and Claire were a unique couple. His spirit will live on in his artistic creations that adorn our home and beach cottage.
